The country’s next pelvic mesh trial in the country will be tried by Matthews & Associates Law Firm of Houston. It will be the fourth such trial handled by the firm, which has won jury verdicts for plaintiffs in each of its three prior transvaginal mesh trials, along with lawyers from Freese & Goss.
Ramirez vs. Johnson & Johnson
Ramirez vs. Johnson & Johnson TVT – Obturator (also Reyes, et al.) is set to begin in San Antonio July 17, 2015. This trial was originally rescheduled for Jan. 12, 2015. The site is 438th District Court in Bexar County, where judges rotate. One will be named the Thursday before the trial.
Jennifer Ramirez was 28 when she was implanted with a Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon) transvaginal mesh sling – the TVT-O – on Sept. 17, 2010.
After giving birth to her third child, Ms. Ramirez was implanted with the mesh to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Afterwards, she complained of intense pain and continuing SUI. Surgeons attempted to remove the mesh on Dec. 22, 2010. The lawsuit petition alleges that portions of the plastic mesh remain inside her, that the mesh contributes to ongoing pain, and Ms. Ramirez continues to suffer from stress urinary incontinence.
The same Johnson & Johnson TVT-O mesh was implanted in Ms. Linda Batiste, who won a $1.2 million verdict against J & J and Ethicon in 2014, after a Dallas jury found the TVT-O defective. Ms. Batiste was also represented by Matthews & Associates and Freese & Goss.
Firms win Three Pelvic Mesh Verdicts
Matthews & Associates, along with Freese & Goss, has won all three of the firms’ pelvic mesh trials which have gone to juries.
